A sandwich is popular and to go food all over the world. It is basically stuffing your choice of vegetables between two bread slices. It is a quick and easy snack to make. I will be sharing different types of sandwich recipes popular in India.

In India, we have our versions of Sandwich with various stuffing ideas. The sandwich is popular in India as street food and is also served in the restaurants.

Please do try the recipes only if you have the ingredients at home. Do not step out of the house unnecessarily. You can always skip any ingredient in the recipes as per the availability at your homes. Stay Home Stay Safe.

Mumbai Masala Veg Toast Sandwich

Mumbai Masala Toast Sandwich

This is one of the different types of Sandwich popular in the streets of Mumbai city in India. It is a mix of a special potato stuffing and lots of vegetables served with green chutney and Tomato Ketchup.

Ingredients

Ingredients used for Mumbai Masala Toast
  • 5 Boiled and chopped potatoes
  • 1 Large Onion Chopped
  • 1 Large Green Capsicum chopped
  • 2 Medium-sized Sliced Tomatoes
  • 6-7 Curry Leaves
  • 2 tsp cumin and mustard seeds (Rai-Jeera)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3-4 slit green chillies
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Cheese Slices
  • Tomato Ketchup
  • 1 cup Green Chutney(mint-coriander chutney)
  • 1 cup Butter
  • Sev for Garnishing
  • Bread Slices

Method

For the Potato Stuffing

  • Put oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin. Once they start crackling, add the curry leaves and slit green-chillies.
  • Then add the chopped potatoes in it and mix all the ingredients well.
  • Add the turmeric powder and again mix it well.

For the Sandwich

  • Spread the green chutney and Butter on the Bread slices.
  • Then spread the Potato Stuffing on a Bread slice.
  • Place the Tomato and chopped onion-capsicum on the Potato Stuffing.
  • Sprinkle some chat masala on it and add the cheese slice on the top.
  • Now cover it with another bread slice spread with chutney and butter.
  • Grill or Toast the Sandwich on a non-stick pan by applying some butter on top of the slices.
  • You can also grill the sandwich on a grill sandwich machine.
  • Garnish it with Sev and serve hot with Chutney and Tomato Ketchup.

Club Sandwich

This is a recipe of an Indian style Club Sandwich. It comprises of a Chila made from Besan(gram flour) and salad. This is a double-layered sandwich.

Ingredients

For the Besan Chila

  • 3 cups Besan (gram flour)
  • 1/4th cup chopped coriander
  • 2 tsp green chilli-ginger paste
  • 2 tsp crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp cumin-coriander powder
  • 1/4th tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • salt to taste
  • Some water to make the batter
  • ½ cup oil

Salad

  • 2 Medium-Sized sliced Tomatoes
  • 2 Medium-sized sliced Onions
  • Chat Masala
  • 1 cup Green-chutney (mint-coriander chutney)
  • 1 cup Butter

Method

For the Chila

  • Add besan(gram flour), coriander, green chilli-ginger paste, garlic, red-chilli powder, cumin-coriander powder, turmeric powder, chaat masala, salt in a bowl.
  • Now, make a thick consistency batter like that of a Dosa batter by adding some water in it.
  • Sprinkle some oil on a non-stick pan and spread the batter in a round shape like a Dosa.
  • Cook both the sides on a medium gas flame.

For the Sandwich

Spread the green chutney and butter on three slices of Bread.

Now place the Besan Chila on one slice of the Bread.

Cover it with a Bread slice and then spread the green chutney and butter on the top of that Bread.

Now place the onions and Tomato slices on the Bread.

Sprinkle some chaat masala on it and cover it with another Bread Slice.

Now toast the sandwich on a pan by applying some Butter or Grill the sandwiches in a grill sandwich maker.

Serve the Club Sandwich with some Tomato Ketchup and Potato chips.

Paneer Tikka Sandwich

Paneer Tikka Sandwich

This is another delicious fusion recipe of a sandwich. It is stuffed with a popular North Indian dish Paneer Tikka stuffing. Paneer Tikka is made by marinating the Paneer(cottage cheese) and vegetables and grilling them on a pan.

For Paneer Tikka

  • 1 cup curd
  • ½ cup roasted gram flour (chana atta)
  • 1 tsp kasoori methi
  • 2 tsp crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp chat masala
  • 1 tsp oil
  • salt to taste
  • 1 cup Paneer
  • ½ cup chopped Onions
  • ½ cup chopped Capsicum

For the Sandwich

  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Green Chutney(mint-coriander chutney)

Method

For the Paneer Tikka

  • Put all the ingredients curd, roasted gram flour, Kasuri methi, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, chat masala and salt in a bowl and mix them well.
  • Now, add the cube-sized paneer, onion and capsicum in the bowl and coat it well with the marination prepared.
  • Keep the bowl aside for an hour so that the paneer and vegetables blend well with the marination.
  • Now cook the well-coated paneer, capsicum and onion on a non-stick pan with a teaspoonful of oil on a low flame on both sides. Then, place the Paneer tikka aside

For the Paneer Tikka Sandwich

  • Spread the green chutney and butter on the bread slices.
  • Now spread the Paneer Tikka filling on the bread and cover it with another bread slice spread with green chutney and butter.
  • Now toast the sandwich on a pan by applying some Butter or Grill the sandwiches in a grill sandwich maker.
  • Serve the Hot Paneer Tikka Sandwich with some Tomato Ketchup.

Chilli Cheese Toast

Chilli Cheese Toast has a lot of versions in India. It is served differently in different places in India. It can also be served as an open sandwich. This is the easiest recipe among all the different types of sandwich recipes. It is a toast bread topped with some chopped green chillies and loads of cheese and Italian spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated cheese
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • 3-4 chopped green chillies
  • 1 tbsp butter

Method

Put the grated cheese, oregano, chilli flakes, and green chillies in a bowl.

Mix all the ingredients well.

Now spread butter on both sides of Bread and toast it on one side on a non-stick pan.

Then add the cheese mixture on the side which is Toasted and then toast the other side of the Bread.

Cover the bread slice with a lid to cook the sandwich and melt the cheese.

After 2-3 minutes the chilli cheese toast will be ready to serve.

Serve it with some Tomato Ketchup.

Mumbai Sandwich

Mumbai Sandwich is a popular street food of the Mumbai city in India. It is a bit spicier and has some unique flavours which makes it a perfect street food. It is stuffed with loads of salad and a generous amount of chaat masala with some spicy green chutney.

Ingredients

  • 2 Large-sized Boiled and sliced Potato
  • 2 Large-sized sliced Tomatoes
  • 1 Large-sized Beetroot Boiled and Sliced
  • 1 Large-sized sliced Cucumber
  • 1 Large-sized sliced Onions
  • 1 cup green chutney (mint-coriander chutney)
  • 8-10 Bread slices
  • 1 cup Butter

  • Spread the butter and green chutney on the bread slice.
  • Now add the sliced salad like Boiled Potato, Tomatoes, beetroot, cucumber and Onions on the Bread slice and also sprinkle the chaat Masala on each salad.
  • Cover the sandwich with a bread slice spread with green chutney and butter.
  • Now cut the sandwich in 6 pieces and serve it with green chutney and Tomato Ketchup.

  • You can also make a Mumbai Veg. Toast sandwich with the same method. You just have to toast the sandwich.
