What To Eat in Rainy Season in India
We always have a craving for hot and fresh food in the rainy season. It is one of my favourite seasons. I will be sharing 5 simple and healthy recipes to satisfy your cravings in the rainy season.
Please do try the recipes only if you have the ingredients at home. Do not step out of the house unnecessarily. You can always skip any ingredient in the recipes as per the availability at your homes. Stay Home Stay Safe.
Please wash the vegetables thoroughly before making the food. Also, wash your hands with soap before cooking.
All the below recipes serves 4-5 persons
Rainy Season Simple and Healthy Food Recipes

Bread Besan Toast/Bread Chila
This is one of the easiest simple and healthy recipes to satisfy your monsoon cravings. We usually tend to crave for food made from Besan(gram flour) in the monsoons. Bread Besan Chila is a perfect recipe for a healthy snack or a light dinner. It is a batter made of veggies and besan applied on bread.
Ingredients


- 2 cups Besan
- 1 large-size chopped onion
- 1 Medium-sized chopped tomato
- 2 tsp ginger-chilli paste
- 1/4th cup chopped coriander
- 2 tsp red-chilli powder
- 2 tsp cumin-coriander powder
- 1/4th tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 8-10 Bread slices
Method

- Add Besan, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, ginger-chilli paste, coriander, red chilli powder, cumin-coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt in a large bowl.
- Then add water in the batter. The batter should have a thick consistency like a dosa batter.
- Pre-heat the non-stick pan for 3-4 mins on a medium flame.

- Now, take a slice of bread and dip it into the batter till it is coated on both the sides.

- Sprinkle some oil on the non-stick pan and place the bread on the pan.
- Add a bit of batter on the bread when it is on the pan and spread it evenly.

- After 2-3 minutes or when the bread is cooked flip it on the other side.
- Cook the other side until it is completely cooked or for 2-3 minutes.
- Serve the Hot Bread Besan Toast with some tomato Ketchup.
Hot Snacks with simple and healthy Recipes to eat in Rainy Season

Dal Pakwan
This is a popular Sindhi Breakfast dish popular mainly in North India. We usually crave for some fried stuff in the monsoons. It is one of the simple and healthy recipe options to relish in the monsoons. It is made from chana dal(lentil) cooked in spices served with Pakwan.
Ingredients
For the Dal

- 2 cups chana dal
- 2 slit green chillies
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp cumin-coriander powder
- 1/4th tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp amchoor or chat masala
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Chopped Onions for garnishing
For Pakwan
2 cups Maida(all-purpose flour)
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
Method
For the Dal

- Boil the chana dal by adding water to in a pressure cooker for 4-5 whistles. The dal should not be mashy, so do not over-cook it.
- Heat oil in a pan for a minute and then add jeera(cumin) in it.
- Once, the jeera starts crackling, add the green chillies and after a few seconds add, boiled chana dal in it.
- Then, cumin-coriander powder, turmeric powder, chat masala, garam masala, salt, and little water so that the spices do not burn.
- Mix the dal with all the spices and cover the lid.
- Let it cook for 3-4 minutes. Now add a little more water to make it like a thick dal.
- Let it cook for a minute more and switch off the gas.
- The Dal is ready to serve.
For Pakwan


- Add the maida, jeera, ghee and salt in a flat pan.
- Knead dough just like that of a Puri. The dough should not be too thick or too soft.

- Now roll a round shape medium-sized puri.
- Prick it with a fork to make little holes, as we need a thick and crispy Pakwan.
- Now pre-heat the oil to deep-fry in a pan.

- Once, the oil is hot dip the pakwan with a ladle in the oil.
- Fry the Pakwan on a medium gas-flame.
- Fry it till it is a bit golden-brown on both sides.
- The Pakwan is ready to serve.
For Serving
Put the dal in a bowl and garnish it with some chopped onions and coriander.
Then, Serve the Dal with Pakwan in a plate.

You can also serve it as a chaat by garnishing with some tamarind chutney, green chutney and onions on the Pakwan and DAl.
Instant Rava(semolina) Dhokla

Dhokla is a popular snack among Indians. It is from the state of Gujarat in India. Instant Dhokla is one of the perfect simple and healthy recipes for the monsoons. Steamed and hot Dhoklas are a perfect snack item to relish in monsoons. Rava Dhoklas do not need any fermentation and can be prepared immediately. Dhokla is a Gujarati snack popular among Indians. It is from the state of Gujarat in India.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rava(semolina)
- 2 tbsp curd(yogurt)
- 1 small sachet of Eno Soda or ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp pepper powder
- Salt to taste
Method
- Take curd in a bowl with some water and mix it well like a puree.
- Then add Rava and salt in the bowl
- Mix all the ingredients with some water to make a thick consistency batter.
- Keep it aside for 15 mins.
- Now add the baking soda and Eno soda in it and stir it rigorously for a few seconds.
- Now, immediately grease oil in a round plate and then pour the batter in it.
- Sprinkle some pepper powder on it.
- Add the plate in a pressure cooker on a stand and close the lid without a whistle on it.
- Now remove the plate after 15 minutes and let it cool down for 3-4 minutes.
- Cut square slices of the Dhokla and serve it.
- Serve hot dhoklas with some green chutney on it.

Vegetable Cutlets with Mayo Salad

This is again one of the perfectly simple and healthy recipes for a monsoon snack. It can also be had in Dinner with some hot soup and salad. They are half-fried on a pan which makes it more tempting in the monsoons. Moreover, it has a lot of vegetables in it for a healthy and tasty snack and dinner.
Ingredients
For the Cutlets

- 4-5 Medium-sized potatoes
- ½ cup sweet corn
- 3 tbsp green peas
- 3 tbsp chopped green beans
- 3 tbsp chopped carrots
- coriander for garnishing
- 2 tsp green chilli-ginger paste
- 1 tsp garam-masala powder
- 1 tsp pepper powder
- 2 tbsp bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp cornflour
- ½ cup oil
- Salt to taste
For the Mayo Salad
Ingredients

- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 Medium-sized sliced onion
- 1 Medium-sized shredded capsicum
- Pepper Powder
- 1 tsp oil
- 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
- Salt to taste
Method
For the Cutlets

- Boil the potatoes, sweet-corn, green peas, green beans, and carrots in a pressure cooker.
- Now, mash the boiled potatoes in a big flat vessel or dish.
- Add, the sweet-corn, green peas, green beans, carrots, coriander, green chilli-ginger paste, pepper powder, garam-masala powder, salt in it.
- Now mix all the ingredients well.
- Sprinkle some oil on a non-stick pan and place the cutlets on the pan on a medium flame.
- Cook both the sides of the cutlets till they are golden brown.
- Hot cutlets are ready to serve
Method
For the Mayo Salad

- Heat oil in a pan and then add the shredded capsicum and cabbage.
- Do not cook the vegetables completely. They should remain slightly crunchy.
- Then, add pepper powder and salt in it.
- Mix it well and then switch off the gas flame.
- Later, add the mayonnaise in it and mix it well again.
- The mayo salad is ready to serve.
Healthy Food to eat in the rainy season
Besan(gram flour) Chila with some added spices

Besan Chila is again a popular dish and one of the perfect simple and healthy recipes for monsoons. It is made of a gram flour batter mixed with various spices. It is also known as pudla in some regions of India especially in the state of Gujarat.
Ingredients

- 3 cups Besan (gram flour)
- 1/4th cup chopped coriander
- 2 tsp green chilli-ginger paste
- 2 tsp crushed garlic
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 2 tsp cumin-coriander powder
- 1/4th tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chaat masala
- salt to taste
- Some water to make the batter
- ½ cup oil
Method

- Add besan(gram flour), coriander, green chilli-ginger paste, garlic, red-chilli powder, cumin-coriander powder, turmeric powder, chaat masala, salt in a bowl.
- Now, make a thick consistency batter like that of a Dosa batter by adding some water in it.

- Sprinkle some oil on a non-stick pan and spread the batter in a round shape like a Dosa.

- Cook both the sides on a medium gas flame.
- Serve hot Besan Chilas with mint-coriander green chutney and some tomato ketchup.
